Checkers, where did this come from? Checkers is a board game that was first used as a board for chess. Then that board of squares was used for Checkers. This is where pieces were dragged over squares for making moves. The board at that time had 64 squares, In the 14th century a pattern of squares was with that of a piece or that of a man was used in the game. It was also used as a so-called tablecloth of squares for counting money as in the Exchequer. Today we still use Checkers for games and for flags, like winning a Race at Daytona or the Brickyard, Horses too!
